Bushfire Attack Level Rating / BAL

Bushfire attack level ratings or BAL’s are undertaken in accordance with AS-3959 Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas to determine the construction requirements for buildings in bushfire-prone areas. The aim of a BAL rating is to improve a buildings resistance to bushfire attack from burning embers, radiant heat, flame contact and combinations of the three attack forms.

The BAL classification of a site depends on a number of factors such as the location of the site within Australia, site topography and the distance to and type of surrounding vegetation.

Soil Industries will attend your site (usually at the time of a soil test) noting the relevant features and determine its rating. With this information a building designer can determine the appropriate construction requirements for your house.
